I have been concentrating on studying my A-Level subjects to try to reach the best grades that I can, but I have still been able to continue with some charity work for the local community. I work Saturday afternoons in the Oxfam shop in our High Street and I also am a member of our church community action group where we have activities such as doing gardening for old people and doing their shopping for them, so I would like to get involved in university charity activities too.
I am heavily involved in sports at school, and I represent the school in our local leagues in netball and hockey. I was captain of the netball team last year. I’d like to carry on doing these sports and I would love to represent the university at any level. I’m also keen on drama and I act in all our school plays and I plan to join the university drama group.
I am not afraid of taking up responsibilities to improve the community I find myself in. For example, I am head girl at my school. I regularly attend meetings with the director and the heads of department where I bring up problems that students are facing as well as suggestions to improve their time at school. Another example of something I have done is tutor students from lower years for free. This is something I would like to continue doing here if possible.
I am a passionate and determined person who is very focused on how I can work to improve the community I am in. For example, I led a student group in high school to advocate for and draft a new, progressive dress code that was accepted by the school leadership team. I have also worked as a leader of our Student Advocacy of Diversity group to create n educational platform for students to learn about important issues.
